A firm favourite amongst visitors to the Speed Shop, Stockwell Lodge is right in the heart of Braunton so not far from all the main facilities. HOTEL - BARNSTAPLE HOTEL

A four mile journey from the Speed Shop is the well rated Barnstaple Hotel, not as low cost as the Premier Inn on the far side of Barnstaple, but offers good facilities and reasonable prices for the area.

CAMPSITE - LOBB FIELDS

Lobb Fields campsite is one of the closest to the Speed Shop and just on the outskirts of Braunton. It's fairly priced and well run, although not as intimate as some may like as it's a fairly big site. There are dozens of campsites in a 5 mile radius however, with Pitchup.com the best place to go to see what else is available.

PLACES TO EAT

Being a popular tourist area there is a good choice of quality places to eat in and around Braunton where the Speed Shop is based.

Squires Fish and Chip Restaurant - A favourite amongst visitors to the area for its consistently good fish and chip takeaway and restaurant, with reasonable prices and great service. For those after a little more variety, try the SQ bar over the road; owned by the same family and with a good menu and drinks range.

Hang Loose - A new opener in Braunton towards the tail end of 2021, this has got some great food - not the cheapest - but a fresh interesting menu with great roasts and excellent curries. A bit of a surfer vibe to it, with some great local art on the walls. Plenty of atmoshere.

Siam Bistro - The village's only thai restaurant is good quality and reasonably priced.

Surma Tandoori - The Indian restaurant is the same. Decent food and a reasonably priced.

The Williams Arms - An old thatched building on the way into the village, the Williams Arms is a traditional pub affair, with a great carvery and an even better stilton burger. Decent ale, friendly service; you can't go wrong. As with most places during the summer, book in advance!

The Beach Cafe Downend - It doesn't sound great, a
wooden shack in a carpark, but this place does a fantastic
Sri Lankan curry in the evening and the view is one
looking right over Croyde Bay. Great food and perfect
on a warm summer's evening. There's also good Sri
Lankan curry to be found down on Barricane Beach, next
to Woolacombe Beach. Sit on the sand to eat there.
