Format of the Day
Riders arrive at 9.00am for a cup of tea and a brief. We talk through the bikes, what people are interested in riding, what they're going to be using them for and what they're riding history is like. We choose the bikes for the day (there's usually a consensus, and out we go around 9.45am. Depending on the time of year we'll either head straight over to Exmoor or along the coast, filtering in a few trails along the way depending on what people want to do.
The aim of the day is to give you plenty of time on all of the bikes so you come away with a clearer idea of which suits you best. We swap bikes regularly throughout the day. There's no formal arrangement. If we stop and you want to swap then people swap. We stop for a coffee break and lunch. We ride some twisty roads, some single track, some hairpins. Riders just need to confident on unfamiliar roads and unfamiliar bikes. We ride as a group but there's no onus to keep pace with the rider in front - ride your own ride. We regroup if we get stretched out.
The beauty of the day is the discussion between the riders; figuring out as they go which bike/s are working best for them. Often there's some surprises, sometimes there's confirmation of what they thought they were going to find. But there's nowhere else in the UK where you can jump from bike to bike and slowly pinpoint which one's the right one for you. Saves a lot of time and money in buying the wrong bike. We usually finish around 16.30pm, with a cupy of tea and a download on what conclusion people came to.

The new KTM Adventure R is arguably the bike we hoped for back in 2020 when the Adventure was first released. Now with 21/18 wheel set up, longer travel suspension and lighter than rivals such as Himalayan 450, and with more power and better suspension than CRF300 Rally and Voge 300 Rally.
This and its Enduro R sibling could be the ones to beat.
Rieju 500 Aventura

A bit of an oddball this, but representative of the twin cylinder 500cc class of bikes, such as the Honda NX500 or Benelli TRK 502. It'll give you an idea of size and weight increase of these larger capacity machines, as well as the extra smoothness of the larger engine.
HONDA CRF 300 RALLY

The CRF300 Rally is also new for 2021 and offers a chance to ride the latest trail bike from Honda. Changes to the CRF 250 are mainly felt in the engine, with a stronger mid-range and improved gear ratios. Riding the 300 back to back with the 250 is a great way of measuring the change, or realising that you're happy sticking with the old one.
VOGE 300 RALLY

The Voge 300 Rally was a surprise arrival for 2023. A cut price CRF 300 Rally was how it was viewed. Some say it's as good. Some say it's better. The only way to know for certain is to ride them back to back and make up your own mind. The seat height might dissuade some, but for the money, it's difficult to look elsewhere.
TRIUMPH 400X SCRAMBLER

The new Triumph 400X has set the cat amongst the pigeons since its 'affordable' price was announced. More street scrambler than trail bike, the Triumph threatens to offer what most riders want; light, affordable, with enough power for everyday riding. Let's see how it compares to an increasingly competitive market.
ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN 452

A step chance for Royal Enfield with the 452 over the original 411. More power, more tech, more torque, similar weight. Is it any better in the real world? The proof will be in the pudding, but no doubt this is one of the bikes to beat in 2024. The Triumph is a close adversary, but with the CF Moto MT450 on the horizon, things are certainly hotting up!

No longer available brand new, the 411 still represents one of the benchmark bikes of this class, beginning the trend for more affordable, manageable machines for the every man. It has a low seat height, a long stroke motor giving good torque, and the second hand values mean it's a great second or primary bike for people wanting to explore. Many still love it.

Condition of Motorcycles: Participants accept that the motorcycles provided are pre-owned and may be equipped with aftermarket components and tyres. Riders are required to promptly inform the ride leader of any issues or concerns regarding the motorcycles.

Terrain Challenges: Participants acknowledge that the terrain may present challenges, including single-track roads, hairpin corners, gravel, and grass on the road. Any concerns regarding the terrain must be communicated immediately to the ride leader and in any instance, riders have the capacity to stop short of any terrain they feel unsuitable.

Financial Responsibility: Riders accept responsibility for the first £500 of any claim arising from damage attributed to them. Minor damages will incur charges equivalent to the cost of replacement or repair.

Speed and Riding Ability: Riders acknowledge that there will be varying levels of ability among participants. There is no obligation to match the speed of the rider ahead. Each participant must ride at a speed that is suitable for their skill level and the conditions. Riders must make their own safe judgements when pulling out of junctions, executing manoeuvres and in travelling at a safe speed.

Medical Disclosure: Riders must disclose any medical issues or medications that may affect their ability to ride safely throughout the duration of the tour.

Non-Instructional Nature: Participants accept that this tour is not designed as a tuition or instructional day, with no formal instruction given. It is implied by the presentation of a valid licence that riders have the necessary riding skill for the day's riding as it has been detailed.

Compliance with Road Laws: Riders are responsible for adhering to all applicable road laws and regulations in the UK, including speed limits, traffic signs, and safe riding practices.
